ARE VENEERS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Does your smile need a significant makeover, but you prefer minimal treatment? Veneers are thin, lifelike shells that are permanently bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth, and need little to no tooth preparation. You might consider receiving veneers if you exhibit:
- Internal tooth discoloration
- Misshapen teeth
- Slightly crooked teeth
- One or more gaps between teeth
- Chipped or lightly cracked teeth
- Or more than one cosmetic issue at once
WHAT ARE VENEERS MADE OF?
Veneers are typically made from high-quality dental porcelain which is specially designed to mimic healthy, natural tooth structure. The material is tinted to the specific shade and hue of your teeth to blend in seamlessly with the rest of your smile. Also, the porcelain is semi-translucent, like tooth enamel, and when layered, can produce the same light-reflecting properties as your healthy teeth.
HOW THIN ARE THE SHELLS?
Most traditional veneers are approximately 0.5 mm or less. However, they are strong enough to withstand the pressure of your bite. Before placing the veneer, your dentist will prepare the tooth by lightly sculpting the enamel to accommodate the ultra-thin shell comfortably.
WILL VENEERS AFFECT MY FACIAL APPEARANCE?
By rebuilding the front structures of damaged or malformed teeth, veneers can provide a better support system for your lips and other nearby facial structures. The result will be a more cheerful and youthful look for your face and smile, not just your teeth.
HOW WILL I CARE FOR MY VENEERS?
Porcelain veneers don’t require extensive special treatment to maintain. Simply brush and floss them along with your teeth at least twice a day, preferably with minimally-abrasive toothpaste. Be sure to attend a dental exam and cleaning as often as your dentist recommends ensuring that your veneers and teeth remain strong and healthy.
HOW LONG WILL MY VENEERS LAST?
With proper care and maintenance, veneers can last up to 15 years or more before needing replacement. They are also highly stain resistant and are less likely than your natural tooth structure to become dull over time.
