Dental Bridges & Dentures
Have you lost one, several, or all of your teeth? Has your existing dental bridge or denture lost its comfortable fit and effectiveness? At Gorman Dental Care, we understand the impact that tooth loss can have on your life and the role that your replacement teeth play in restoring your confidence and well-being. Through advanced diagnostic technology and lifelike restorations, we can custom-design a realistic bridge or denture to rebuild your smile, restore your bite function, and improve your overall quality of life.
WHAT IS A DENTAL BRIDGE?
When you’ve lost a single tooth or lost up to three adjacent teeth a dental bridge can fill the gap in your smile with lifelike replacement teeth, or pontics. The pontics are connected to and supported by crowns on either side and are bonded over adjacent remaining teeth. The pontics and crowns of a bridge are often made from porcelain or zirconia for the most realistic esthetic results.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BRIDGE AND A PARTIAL DENTURE?
Like a bridge, a partial denture replaces several but not all of your teeth. Unlike a bridge, however, a partial is supported by a comfortable plastic base and contains pontics that fit between your healthy remaining teeth. A partial denture is necessary when you’ve lost several teeth that are not adjacent to each other, but yet retain enough healthy teeth to make a complete denture unnecessary.
WHEN IS A COMPLETE DENTURE APPROPRIATE?
Complete dentures, or full dentures, consist of an entire row of replacement teeth. The gum-colored base is fitted to your dental ridge to create natural suction for support, and the replacement teeth are designed for optimal appearance and function. Complete dentures are appropriate when you’ve lost most, or all of your teeth, on the upper and/or lower dental ridge.
CAN I SUPPORT MY BRIDGE OR DENTURE ON DENTAL IMPLANTS?
If your jawbone is strong enough and your gums are free of gum disease, you may be able to support your dental bridge or denture on an appropriate number of prosthetic teeth roots, or dental implants. Implant posts can be strategically placed into the jawbone to support your bridge or denture without the need for supportive dental crowns or hidden clasps.
